There is no shortage of things to do in Alpharetta. That is usually the problem. The city has parks, a walkable downtown, a shopping district that doubles as an entertainment district, and enough restaurants that picking one becomes its own argument in the group chat.

Outdoors first
Alpharetta is genuinely good at green space, which is unusual for a city this close to Atlanta.
Big Creek Greenway
The default. Paved, flat, shaded for most of its length, and long enough that you can walk twenty minutes or ride for an hour. It works for strollers, bikes and people who just need to get out of the house.
Wills Park
Covers the rest: fields, a playground, an equestrian center, and enough room that a Saturday morning there does not feel crowded.
Both are free, which makes them the easiest first half of a two-part plan.
Downtown Alpharetta and Avalon
These are the two walkable districts, and they are different animals.
Downtown Alpharetta
The smaller, slower one. Independent restaurants, a green in the middle, and a rotating calendar of markets and events. Better for a relaxed afternoon or an early dinner.
Avalon
The bigger production. Retail, a movie theater, restaurants with patios, seasonal events and a lot of foot traffic on weekends. Better when you want the night to have some energy to it.
If you are visiting north metro Atlanta for the first time, do one of each and you have seen the city.
When the plan needs an activity, not just a table
Here is the pattern most Alpharetta nights fall into: dinner is fine, conversation is fine, and then around 9pm somebody checks their phone and the night quietly ends.

Eating your way through it
Alpharetta's restaurant scene is broad enough that "where should we eat" deserves its own night. Downtown leans independent and chef-driven. Avalon leans polished. North Point has the widest range of price points.

North Georgia summers and sudden afternoon storms will wreck an outdoor plan. Keep one indoor option in reserve:
